CERTIFICATE COURSE IN CHILD PROTECTION (CCCP)

Rationale

Protection of children is a growing concern worldwide. Families, communities, the State, and concerned citizens must take preventive measures to safeguard children’s rights. It is equally important to understand the concept of child protection and our collective responsibility to create an environment where children can enjoy their childhood with dignity.

With this vision, the Centre for Child Protection (CCP), SPUP, in partnership with UNICEF, runs a six-month Certificate Course in Child Protection through online learning mode. This course aims to strengthen knowledge and practices in child protection among professionals and individuals aspiring to build a career in this field.

The course is designed for:

  • Members of Special Juvenile Police Units (SJPU), Juvenile Justice Boards (JJB), Child Welfare Committees (CWC), and Anti-Human Trafficking Units (AHTU).
  • Child Helpline staffs, supervisors/superintendents of Child Care Institutions, employees of NGOs/CSOs and government organizations working on child rights and child protection.
  • Students and fresh graduates looking to build a career in child protection.
  • Individuals interested in problem-solving and research on child rights and protection.

 

Objectives of the Course

The salient objectives of the programme are to:

  • Provide learners with core knowledge of child protection and child rights, including international treaties, UNCRC, and child rights frameworks.
  • Build a theoretical understanding of the various forms of exploitation faced by children and their consequences.
  • Equip learners with the ability to apply laws, policies, and services for child protection, with clarity on the roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders.
  • Develop understanding of childhood challenges for effective intervention in child protection cases.
  • Promote adoption of child-friendly practices among stakeholders.
  • Strengthen skills in proactive investigation strategies for police officials in child-related cases.
  • Develop capacity to adopt a rights-based approach to child welfare and development at field and institutional levels.
  • Facilitate coordination and linkages among child protection service providers.
  • Prepare professionals for careers in government, NGOs, and INGOs in the field of child protection.

Scope of the Course

  • For students, parents, teachers, or professionals: Enhance knowledge and skills for dealing with children effectively.
  • For freshers: Add value to qualifications for careers in government/INGOs/NGOs in child protection.
  • For experienced practitioners without certification: Gain formal recognition to advance your career.
  • May enhance eligibility for selection as members of Child Protection Committees at village, block, or district levels under the JJ Act and related laws.
  • May support opportunities for appointment in State Commissions established under child protection laws.
  • Above all, it strengthens our collective commitment: Children are our future, and their protection is vital to building a strong democratic nation.

Duration

  • 6 months
  • Four contact classes per theory paper (Total 16 online classes x 2 hours per class = 32 hours.)
  • This duration include online class, self-learning, assignments preparation and fieldwork activity.

Course Structure

The course comprises five papers:

Paper 1: Child and Human Rights

Paper 2: Introduction to Child Protection

Paper 3: Working with Children

Paper 4: Policies and Schemes on Child Protection

Paper 5: Concurrent Field Work

 

Online sessions

  • Classes held online on Saturdays and Sundays (2 hours each).
  • Assignments required for each theory paper.
  • Fieldwork (10 days) with stakeholders working in child rights.
  • Students must submit a fieldwork report, followed by a viva-voce examination.

Eligibility and Intake

  • Minimum qualification: 10th pass.
  • No age bar.
  • Maximum 25 students per batch (two batches may be run simultaneously).

 

 

Medium of Instruction

  • Hindi and English
  • Study material provided by CCP.

Admission & Cancellation Rules

  • Enrolment may be cancelled after one year if participants do not complete the course.

Evaluation System

  • Total Marks: 500 (theory, assignments, fieldwork, and viva).
  • Four theory papers: 100 marks each (70 written + 30 assignment).
  • Fieldwork (Paper V): 70 marks for report + 30 marks for viva.
  • Written exams: 3 hours each, with both subjective and objective
  • Passing criteria: Minimum 40% in each subject.

 

Fees Structure

  • Course fee: 3,000-/INR (General Category)
  • 25% concession for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/SBC/BPL candidates (need/merit basis).
  • Examination fee: 200-/INR.
  • Scholarship available for police personnel.
  • Re-registration required if the course is not completed within one year.
  • Note: The course fee will be valid for one year; subject to annual revision.

 Award of Certificate

  • Students securing at least 40% in each paper will be awarded the Certificate in Child Protectionand Mark sheetby CCP-SPUP.

 Admission Procedure

  • Applicants can apply through the online Google form or by downloading the application form available at the course webpage.
  • Completed forms, along with a recent passport-size photo, scanned educational certificates, scanned certificate if belongs to special category as mentioned above and ID proof, should be emailed to ccp@policeuniversity.ac.in.
  • Selected candidates must pay the prescribed fees via demand draft or online transfer to the Director, Centre for Child Protection.
  • Anyone can enrol by advance registration through the Google form option; CCP will contact candidates during new admission based on registration.
